Motoring Offences Fees

Cocks Lloyd Solicitors Ltd is fully regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). As such, we are legally required to maintain full transparency regarding our pricing. Below you will find detailed information about our fees for motoring offence advice and representation.

In certain circumstances, we might be able to secure legal aid for you. If legal aid is not available, we offer reasonable and transparent fees. In many cases, we can provide a fixed fee, ensuring you do not have to worry about unpredictable legal costs.

Driving Offence Fees

Our fees are based on the qualification and experience of your Solicitor, and these rates are outlined below:

  • Partner/Member Solicitor: £250
  • Senior Solicitor or Head of Dept (PQE 8yr+): £250
  • Assistant Solicitor/Fee Earner (PQE 3/7yr): £200
  • NQ Fee Earner (PQE 1/3yr): £180

Guilty Plea Cases

For cases where a guilty plea has been or will be entered for offences such as drink driving, driving without due care and attention, or speeding, we charge a fixed fee of £500 + VAT for a Nuneaton-based court hearing, or £750 + VAT for courts up to 45 minutes away from Nuneaton.

This fee includes:

  • Reviewing evidence
  • Taking your instructions
  • Providing advice on the likely sentence
  • Attendance and representation at a single hearing at the Magistrates’ Court

This fee does not include:

  • Engaging any expert witnesses
  • Taking statements from any witnesses
  • Advice and assistance concerning a special reasons hearing
  • Advice or assistance related to any appeal

The key stages of your matter assume that you have entered a guilty plea and have a hearing date:

  • Meet with your solicitor to provide instructions on what happened.
  • Review initial disclosure and any other evidence, and provide advice.
  • Arrange to take any witness statements if necessary (additional cost, based on time required).
  • Explain the court procedure and sentencing options available.
  • Conduct any further preparatory work, obtain further instructions from you if necessary, and answer any follow-up queries.
  • Attend court on the hearing day, meet with you before going into court. We anticipate being at court for up to half a day.
  • Discuss the outcome with you. If advice is needed on appeal, additional costs will apply.

It is challenging to predict how long your case will take at Court as it depends on the Court’s listing for that day. Typically, we expect to be at Court with you for up to half a day.

Not Guilty Plea Cases

For trials, special reasons defences, or exceptional hardship arguments, we charge £1,500-2,500 + VAT.

This fee includes:

  • Reviewing the case
  • Taking detailed instructions
  • Preparing for trial or hearing
  • Representing you in Court

All fees are exclusive of VAT, which is charged at the standard rate set by the Government.

Barristers, Expert Witness, and Other Disbursement Fees

In some instances, we may need to instruct an Expert Witness and/or Counsel on your behalf. Fees for experts and counsel usually attract VAT at 20%. We will agree on their fees with you before formal instruction. Travel expenses also generally attract VAT at 20%.

We handle the payment of disbursements on your behalf to ensure a smoother process. Expert reports are not required in many cases. We will inform you as soon as possible if we consider an expert report necessary and discuss the fees involved.
